The First president to make Thanksgiving a national holiday was President Lincoln

 

Turkey was the first food eaten on the moon! Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin enjoyed roasted turkey eaten out of a foil pack.

Deer, Codfish and boiled pumpkin were the foods served at the first thanksgiving (The pilgrims had no ovens to bake bread and no sugar or milk when thanksgiving came around. Their food supply that they came with was very low.

 

Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national bird of the United States. But it was Thomas Jefferson who opposed him. It is believed that Franklin then named the male turkey as 'Tom' to spite Jefferson.

The US Air force found out that Turkeys can suffer from heart attacks they found that out the hard way when they were trying to break the sound barrier. Whole fields of turkeys fell down dead from heart attacks.

 

Plymouth Rock is as big as the size of a car engine today, it has cracked 3 times over the years, each time getting smaller and smaller.

Only male (tom) turkeys gobble but only seasonally and when going to sleep. Females make a clicking noise.

Cranberry must bounce 4 inches before it is harvested.
